Who We Are

Carolina Mock Trial is a proud student-run organization that competes yearly in collegiate mock trial tournaments. We are proud members of the Carolina Community, as well as the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), which serves as the governing body for intercollegiate mock trial competition. Our organization is made up of around 40 members and four competing teams. The program gives members the opportunity to travel, compete, and gain knowledge of legal practices and courtroom procedures.

What We Do

We compete against other collegiate mock trial programs through trial simulation. Each year, AMTA writes and releases either a criminal case or a civil case in which teams must use in order to prepare for trial. For the 2021-22 season, AMTA has created a criminal case about a money-hungry bar owner accused of burning their bar down! Teams prepare both sides of the case, including statements, witness directs and cross-examinations.

Our program operates in two seasons: Invitationals and Regionals. In the fall, each team competes in one invitational tournament across the East Coast to practice and test out their case theories. In the spring, teams polish and prepare for Regional Tournaments in order to move on toward Open Round Championship Series (ORCS) for a chance to make it to Nationals.
